DNA Evidence Shows Albert Behunin's Ancestors Came from Donegal Ireland.

A DNA test by David Behunin of Boise Idaho has revealed important new information regarding the origins of  Albert Behunin's ancestors. David had a special DNA test of the Y Chromosome that reveals a match to a branch of the Buchanan Clan who reside in the county of Donegal Ireland. The Buchanans are a Scottish clan.  A branch of their family moved to the county of Donegal Ireland.  Some of their family members later emigrated to America.  The most famous member of this family, James Buchanan, would later become President of the United States.

David has provided the following DNA chart of the mutations of the various branches of the Buchanan clan.  It shows David, and all Behunin men, have a Y chromosome that most closely matches members of the Buchanan clan that come from the county of Donegal in Northern Ireland.

Our next step in our attempts to identify Albert's lineage, is to trace the Buchanan family lines forward from Ireland to America and then, hopefully, find a link to Albert.  Naturally, we will try to contact Paul Buchanan first and see if he will share his lineage.

This is an exiting new development in our Behunin family research.  As I gather information on the Buchanans of Donegal county, I will post them to this site.  Anyone who finds Buchanans in Ireland or American should feel free to post the information as a comment to this blog page.

  1. Well said James. We are looking for a fairly narrow range of time. Most Buchanans, from Scotland, migrated to Northern Ireland in the mid/late 1500s and then to the colonies through the revolutionary war as we have Isaac being born in 1803 and Albert, Isaac's father, having a birth year of 1758 (if said year is truly correct).

I am searching for a Buchanan listing, which I ran across, where the last name which to me is Buchanan, but had a strike through line making Buchanan look like Buehanan where the c has been read as an e. Thus another path.

Sooooooo, we have lots of opportunity between Buchanan and Behunin, but I think we can divide and finally conquer our genealogical enigma.
